Personal information

My name is Ruby Urlings and I am a 20 year old girl from Holland. I live together with my parents and two younger sisters in Diemen, a town near Amsterdam. I got a passion for games and for that reason I study Game Design and Development at the Utrecht School of Art and Technology.

I am currently in my third year of my study and I am particularly interested in the depth of games and their design. Most people play their favorite games “because, em.. they are just fun”. But this answer interests me. I wonder why certain design decisions lead to this fun experience and others do not . I wonder what fun really is and how it can be applied to games. In my own projects, most of the time group projects, I try to maximize the amount of research and testing. In my believe a game will only be a success when all design decisions are based upon good research. Feel free to contact me if you have any tips or questions.

Besides my interest in gaming I also like to be around people and therefore I work in a club during the weekends. I also like to travel.  I speak Dutch and English fluently, and sufficient French and German for casual conversations. In the summer of 2008 I earned my certificate of French Studies level A2 at L'institut Européen de Français at Montpellier in France. Today I have successfully passed my second year and now work my way through the third.
